Came across a good article on sports betting influencers and I wanted to share it with you
Hello friends! It has been a while since I’ve written and for that I apologize. Writing has always been a streaky activity for me — sometimes I get on a roll and crank out paragraphs left and right, other times I feel like I haven’t much to say and stop writing altogether (I always have to Google whether I should use “altogether” or “all together”). The past few many months have fallen into the latter category. There was a time when I could write filler for days — how do you think I got through college? — but at my advanced 27 years of age, writing paragraphs of meaningless drivel for the sake of gaining subscribers feels disingenuous.
But I haven’t forgotten about this newsletter, and since it has my name in the title I do feel a responsibility to keep it alive.
So today I mounted the clickety-clack (a new term for keyboard I just made up) and got the phalanges* working on a new piece for you guys and gals.
*Phalanges? Really? Get off your high-horse, Webster
I came across a really good article on Front Office Sports about sports betting influencers and how powerful they are. The article goes into the good, the bad, and the ugly of gambling media, and does a great job explaining why no one is to be trusted within the sports betting media space.
Here’s a little preview:
[I]t’s easy to be fooled by sports betting influencers whose supposed locks are no better than random guesses. To build their cachet, many of these creators share only their victories and inflate their winning percentages. The unreality can be harmful and predatory.
And another solid quote:
Someone has to win and someone has to lose. When it comes to selling picks it’s not, ‘How can I get my clients the best result?’ It’s, ‘How can I maintain this client for a monthly revenue?’” Minnick says. “And it’s misleading them to think I’m doing a good job even if I’m not.”
The full article can be found here and if you don’t have an account you can hop over the paywall by using a nifty little site called 12ft.
That’s all for now! We’ll see if this article, however brief, serves as the bursting of a proverbial writing dam for me. Maybe I’ll start writing again, because as you’ve undoubtedly learned by reading the linked article above... being a sports betting influencer can be profitable as fuck!
Thanks everyone, as always I appreciate you reading and giving me a few minutes of your time. I’m less active on the hostile cesspool that is Twitter these days, but I’ll always answer your DMs if you ever want to reach out. You can find me there @Ben13Porter. Much love!
